By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, participants will graduate with a well-rounded skill set in basic metals fitting, FCAW, SAW, SMAW welding, and a strong foundation in industrial safety practices.

  • The program will commence with a thorough introduction to metals fitting, covering topics such as material identification, measuring and cutting, blueprint interpretation, and assembly. Hands-on exercises will enable participants to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of basic fitting techniques.

  • Participants will receive specialized training in FCAW, a versatile welding process suitable for various applications. The curriculum will encompass electrode selection, equipment setup, welding positions, and troubleshooting common issues. Practical exercises will reinforce theoretical concepts, promoting skill acquisition and proficiency.

  • The training program will include basic instruction on SAW, a welding method known for its efficiency in producing high-quality welds. Participants will learn about flux and wire selection, equipment setup, welding parameters, and safety considerations specific to SAW.

  • SMAW, commonly known as stick welding, will also be a secondary focus of the program. Participants will receive basic training in electrode selection, welding positions, joint preparation, and troubleshooting. Practical exercises will allow participants to develop an understanding of SMAW techniques, preparing them for real-world welding scenarios.

  • Recognizing the importance of a safe working environment, the program will integrate industrial safety modules. Topics covered will include hazard identification, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fire safety, and emergency response procedures. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating a safety-first mindset among participants.

The training center builds the foundation to transition into a fitter/welder role. From there, the opportunities are endless.
This training program is a paid experience. Trainees are offered $19.95/hr while learning these skills.

Graduates from the program have moved into various positions from pipefitters, to supervisors, up to senior management roles. Compensation ranges from $21.86/hr as an entry-level fitter/welder to $41.54/hr as a top-scale supervisor.

Gunderson Marine & Iron also offers an electrician apprenticeship program exclusively for internal employees, making this an incredible gateway opportunity for anyone interested in the trades.

The Schweiger Memorial Scholarship Fund, created by Advanced American Construction, has given over $1M in scholarships. Historically, the recipients have been civil and mechanical engineering students at local universities and community colleges
